Sea Gypsy · San Blas, Panama

Weather & Safety Policy

Last updated: October 18, 2026

Sailing in San Blas depends on wind and sea. This policy explains how weather decisions are made, what happens to your booking when the weather turns, and how we keep you safe. It is part of our Booking Terms & Conditions.

At a glance

  • The captain decides when it is safe to sail. That decision is final.
  • Weather cancels your trip before it starts: free reschedule or full refund, your choice.
  • Weather cuts your trip short: refund for the nights you did not use.
  • Plan changes made for weather or safety, like a different anchorage, are not grounds for a refund.
  • We are on WhatsApp 24/7 throughout your trip.

1.The captain decides

Your captain knows these waters and is responsible for everyone on board. The captain’s decisions on safety are final, including:

  • whether to sail, and when;
  • the route and where to anchor;
  • whether swimming, snorkelling, island visits and other activities go ahead.

Wind, rain and choppy water are part of sailing. If the captain judges conditions to be safe, your trip goes ahead. Changes of plan made for weather or safety, such as a different route or anchorage, are not grounds for a refund.

2.If weather cancels your trip before it starts

If the captain decides it is not safe to start your trip, you choose one of the following:

  • A free reschedule to new dates, subject to availability; or
  • A full refund of what you paid for the booking.

This also applies if weather stops the road or speedboat transfer that takes you to the boat.

3.If weather cuts your trip short

If the captain has to end your trip early because of weather, you get a refund for the nights you did not use.

4.Staying safe on board

  • Follow the instructions of the captain and crew at all times.
  • Swimming, snorkelling and other water activities are at your own risk. Stay within the areas and conditions your captain advises.
  • Tell us before you book about any medical condition, mobility need, or anything else that could affect your safety at sea, including if anyone in your group cannot swim.
  • Zero tolerance for illegal drugs. Anyone who brings or uses them may be removed from the trip without a refund.

5.Getting there

  • Pick-up from Panama City is early, usually around 5:00 AM.
  • The trip to the coast is a 2 to 3 hour drive through the jungle, followed by a speedboat transfer of about 1 hour to your boat.
  • Road and sea transfers can be delayed by weather or road conditions. We will keep you updated.
  • Pack electronics and documents in waterproof bags for the speedboat.

6.A remote place

San Blas is remote. Phone signal can be limited in parts of the islands, and medical facilities are far away. Bring any medication you need, and make sure your travel insurance covers medical care and evacuation.
